The Role

We are looking for a friendly, reliable, and hardworking person to join our Outdoor Team at The Plant Place.

Joining our friendly and hardworking team gives you the opportunity to work sociable hours in a busy garden centre, with a strong focus on work-life balance. As part of a forward-thinking and ambitious business, you’ll help us maintain our reputation for quality, plants and excellent customer service.

This is a practical, hands-on role that involves working outdoors in all weather conditions. Working alongside the Outdoor Team Leader and the rest of the team, you will help to keep our outdoor plant area looking clean, tidy, and well stocked, while providing a warm welcome and great customer service.

Your day-to-day duties will include sweeping and keeping the outdoor area clean, moving and lifting compost, gravel and other heavy products, restocking displays and helping customers load larger purchases into their cars. You will also be on hand to answer questions and offer assistance whenever needed.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working outdoors in all weathers, isn’t afraid of physical work and takes pride in doing a good job. A positive attitude, willingness to help and the ability to work well as part of a team are more important than previous experience, as full training will be provided.

Responsibilities include:

• Greeting and assisting customers courteously and efficiently.

• Sign-posting customers to colleagues able to provide specialist advice as necessary, helping to build and maintain customer confidence

• Assisting customers to their cars with purchases within your physical capacity, in particular compost, plants, pots and stoneware

• Helping to keep the garden centre neat, clean and tidy ensuring health and safety guidelines are followed

• Removing trolleys from the car park and positioning them appropriately across the centre

• Maintaining stock and communal areas

• Unloading goods and deliveries

• Replenishing benches, displays and shelves with new stock

• Plant maintenance under supervision

• Supporting other departments within the business as required

• Any other reasonable request

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• Enjoys providing excellent customer service and has good communication skills.

• Has an interest in plants and gardening. Previous horticultural knowledge is an advantage, but a willingness to learn is just as important.

• Is physically fit and happy working outdoors in all weather conditions, with a role that involves being on your feet and regularly lifting and moving stock.

• Is reliable, hardworking, and enjoys working as part of a team

• Is flexible and able to work a variety of shifts, including weekends on a rotational basis.

Working Hours

Our standard opening hours are typically between 8:00am and 6:00pm, with shifts ranging from 7 to 10 hours. Exact shift patterns will be discussed during the interview process.

Weekend working is an essential part of the role and is shared fairly across the team on a rotational basis.

Full training will be provided, so if you’re enthusiastic, enjoy working outdoors, and are keen to develop your knowledge of plants and horticulture, we would love to hear from you.

Additional Information

As with any role in a busy garden centre, there may be times when you will be asked to help with other tasks to support the business. You may also be required to take on additional responsibilities or work closely with the General Manager or Directors when needed.
